Opportunities for Businesses and Landowners

Maindee Unlimited, with support from Newport City Council, is working to enhance Maindee District Centre for residents, businesses, and shoppers. We plan to improve the urban area with wider pavements, more greenery, upgraded sports facilities and general improvements. These projects will be delivered over time in a phased approach.

In this current phase of the project, the focus is on painting, repainting, and enhancing existing visible building facades. This can range from simple repainting and tidying up to more artistic projects like large-scale murals. Our goal is to provide additional interest and eye-catching impact for key areas, whether through refreshing or updating existing paintwork or more creative artwork.

Alongside these improvements, we will run free summer events at the Triangle opposite Maindee Library, including a new street art festival Full Colour Maindee in late September. This festival will celebrate street art and community improvements. Taken together these activities will generate significant local media attention and public awareness and will result in additional footfall while also improving visitor perceptions.

Maindee Unlimited wants to work with businesses and the wider community on the following goals.

1.     Wall Art for Full Colour Maindee

The funds will pay for artists to paint sites and buildings in Maindee District Centre, making the area more colourful, fresher and more attractive to visitors and residents. We seek participation from landlords and traders with building owner permission. Written agreements will be required and arranged for the painting. The charity will pay the artists for their time and costs. Participants can choose their preferred artist.

Full Colour Maindee Info Pack

Full Colour Maindee with be launched at Maindee Triangle on Saturday 10 August (2pm-6pm). The building will display painting options, including temporary artworks on boards and window displays.

2.     Window Displays

Artists and designers can help create window displays, including Christmas lights and printed displays for ground and first-floor windows. These displays could last for a short period of time or for more years. We hope that some displays are made for Full Colour Maindee in September.

3.     Repainting and Tidying Visible Sides of Buildings

We aim to repaint buildings on the street and assist with access, such as using power lifts. This may also include small repairs like clearing and repairing guttering. The focus is on tidying up facades, including boarded-up windows and shuttering

4.     Small Grants for Other Improvements

If you have plans for enhancing your building's exterior, such as new shop fronts or signage, we can discuss financial contributions from the charity. The maximum value is likely to be £3,000.
