Greening Maindee is one of 18 charities and community organisations creating people-powered plans for nature in their local neighbourhoods. Funding from The National Lottery Community Fund and Co-op alongside support from WWF, the RSPB and the National Trust comes together to create the Nature Neighbourhoods project. Recent statistics published in the People’s Plan for Nature, revealed that despite three-quarters of British adults expressing concern about the state of nature, the UK ranks in the bottom 10% of countries globally when it comes to protecting it. The People’s Plan for Nature notably emphasised the need for increased investment in initiatives that empower communities to protect and restore nature at the neighbourhood level. The project’s overarching vision is to empower communities to take meaningful action for climate and nature within their local areas. Through the Nature Neighbourhoods initiative, communities will be able to identify and implement changes that reduce pressure on the environment and to address climate change. This initiative will also enable them to advocate for broader actions, ultimately helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change and restore nature at a local level. Greening Maindee will be focusing on our Maindee neighbourhood and we want your views on a plan for nature there.
