About the area:
The Chepstow Road area has been planted with pollinator friendly plants in a few places. The garden beyond the railway bridge where the waymarker is situated was created in 2023 in a neglected area of car park under the railway bridge. It may be small but there are lots of plants here for Mainbee to visit. When you walk back along Chepstow Road youll notice some raised beds outside the library - also created in 2023. Walk further back along Chepstow Road back past the Triangle and you'll find a small space with the pop-up garden in the car park which has also been planted to create habitat for insects and birds and to encourage people to stop, look and enjoy the area. This was the site of the old victorian Maindee Primary school which was demolished in the 1980s and rebuilt behind Rodney Parade. This area is called the “Triangle “ because it is the area between two railway lines in and out of Newport. The houses here were all originally built for the people who built the GWR railway between 1873 and 1886.

Woodlice - have 14 legs and carry their babies under them. They are not insects they are crustaceans (closely related to shrimps). They have gills so that they can breathe under water if they get a bit damp. There are 30 different types of woodlice in the UK ranging from brown to grey and even pink! Which ones can you find here?

Listen - what can you hear here? Close your eyes for a second and listen to the sounds. Is it ever quiet? Can you hear any nature?
Think - How could you make this a better habitat for nature? CLUE: Homes
